Who am I, is the question that I am sure many of you are asking yourselves. First and foremost, I will tell you, I am not a politician. I am a wife, a mother, and a concerned resident of Matteson who is simply emploring to make a difference in the community in which I live. I have been residing in Matteson for the past 5 years along with my husband (Corey) and son (Kahlil). Over the years, I have been involved in the Matteson Community Center as a dedicated parent and coach. After careful consideration and a result of some tough losses this past election, I have decided that the time is NOW to get even more involved in my community; OUR community.
In the words of President Obama "If something needs fixing, lace up your shoes and do some organizing. If you’re disappointed by your elected officials, grab a clipboard, get some signatures, and run for office yourself. Show up. Dive in. Persevere. Sometimes you’ll win. Sometimes you’ll lose. Presuming a reservoir of goodness in others can be a risk, and there will be times when the process disappoints you".
And, this is exactly what I have done. I know this journey will not be easy, and I am fully aware that I will have to break the barriers of a community made up of "friends in politics", a community who has been let down by the t's administration, a community that is scared of what the future may hold. However, being a resident myself, I also know that this is a community that is ready to heal, progress and move forward to a brighter future. This Village has the potential to be even greater than neighboring towns. Our Village is resilient, I believe in it and so should you.
I am confident that my communication/interpersonal skills, strong project management abilities, and keen attention to detail, coupled with my professional experience makes me an ideal candidate to meet the demands of the Village Clerk. I have nearly 20 years of experience in project, membership and committee management, while working for some of the largest non-profit organizations in the United States; including the American Bar Association and most recently the Alzheimer’s Association. I have spent my career working in public service and non-profit sectors.
Most recently, I have been working internationally and locally advocating for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. I currently manage 17 professional committees ranging from Neuropsychiatric Syndromes, Clinical Trials Advancement and Methods, Vascular Cognitive Disorders to Blood Based Biofluids. These committees have 2000+ domestic and international members. In part, I am responsible for attending regular business meetings, where I record the minutes of each meeting while adhering to the bylaws set forth by its members.
To the people of Matteson, I want you to know that I am deeply committed to serving the Village and enhancing the services provided to all residents with professionalism, while preserving this city’s historical records and maintaining continuity while ensuring transparency.
I am extremely excited about this opportunity to potentially serve my community in this capacity.
