Jim spent over 45 years in law enforcement, starting as a patrolman with the Birmingham Police Department in 1967. In 1970, he began working as a Deputy at
the U. S. Marshals Service under an appointment from the Republican Party and worked there for 31 years. During this time, Jim worked his way through the ranks starting in Birmingham from Deputy to Inspector to Chief Deputy and retired as the
U. S. Marshal in Lexington, KY. As the U. S. Marshal, he was responsible for the operation of six offices with a jurisdiction covering 63 counties, including all
operational and administrative matters for the district.
