Jean Liu Christen is a mom of six girls, a community leader, a chief operating officer, and a film producer married to her college sweetheart, Paul. They have three Peninsula High School graduates attending U.C. Davis, University of Greenwich in London, and the United States Naval Academy, and three attending PVPUSD schools in tenth, seventh, and third grades. When you vote for Jean, you’re getting an engaged parent, a collaborative community builder, and a proven business leader with a passion for excellence, and an eye on the bottom line.
Community Builder and Leader
Jean believes in respecting differences and building on common ground. She knows we are stronger and better together than when we are divided; and that when we all work together as a community with love, transparency, and trust, we’re unstoppable! As President of Pen High PTSA (2020-22), Jean had the unique privilege to nurture meaningful connections between parents, teachers, students, and administrators and bring about positive change during the pandemic. At a time when isolation and misinformation was at an all-time high, Jean and her team took PTSA programs and activities online and created innovative ways to be more inclusive, open communications to improve understanding, disseminate the truth, and build community. She held monthly virtual Coffee Chats with principals, counselors, and recent alumni, and offered seasonal food and culture demonstrations led by Pen and PV High families with diverse ethnic backgrounds. Jean found a way to create hybrid meetings giving parents unable to attend in person a way to participate - ask questions, offer comments, and engage with school officials. She relocated meetings to venues without stairs making it more accessible for those with physical limitations. She further enlisted the help of parent groups on campus to translate documents into Chinese, Korean, and Japanese and recommended the school move the Google Translate option to the top of every school communication and made information accessible to more parents. Consequently, Peninsula High School won the National School of Excellence Award, the first school to do so in PVPUSD and Jean won the California State PTA Honorary Service Award.
Jean is a proven leader who will change the status quo in a positive and unifying manner and provide access to timely information in order to engage and empower all parents in the education of their children.
