As an experienced board member with 40+ years of teaching and administrative experience in Pleasanton, my focus has always been and will always be about making decisions that are best for children. Never before has the education system faced such challenges, both academically and financially. Experience is what is needed to implement a robust remote learning experience for all students while maintaining fiscally sound practices.
In 2016, I ran on the platform of providing leadership stability in the district and better addressing the needs of our underserved students. We now have a superintendent who is entering his fourth year, an experienced cabinet, and skilled administrators at all sites, providing consistency and stability. We must continue to focus on our at-risk and underserved students. While we have made great strides, the work is not finished. We must continue as a district to meet the educational needs of all students.
I consider my school board position to be both a privilege and a public service, so I have donated my trustee stipend to special projects in the Pleasanton Unified School District each month. Cumulatively, I have donated almost $20,000 to programs throughout the district to support foster/kinship students, special needs students, social-emotional learning, and student clubs and activities.
When making decisions as a school board trustee, my guiding principle is always “What’s best for students?” If re-elected, I pledge to continue to put students first.
I look forward to serving our school community for another four years and humbly request your support. Please feel free to contact me via my website (www.votemaher4schoolboard.com) with your thoughts and concerns.
