Hello, my name is Mike Coyle, I am privileged and honored to serve as your Sheriff of Madison County.
I am a lifelong resident of Madison County. I am married to my wife, Linda, of 50 years, who is a retired Waco Postmaster.

I’ve spent almost four decades in law enforcement starting at the Richmond Police Department as a Patrolman, then the Berea Police Department as a Patrolman and retiring from the Kentucky State Police. I was elected sheriff of Madison County in November 2014 and re-elected in November 2018.
All of my career I’ve been a faithful and devoted law enforcement servant to the State of Kentucky and to Madison County and have spent my law enforcement career trying to make a difference for all citizens.
Under my administration, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office has grown in manpower and has evolved into a professional, well-trained full-service law enforcement agency and is now staffed with over 600 years of law enforcement experience.
Our Sheriff’s Office in 2017 became one of only seventeen, Sheriff’s Offices in the state to receive Accreditation honors for high standards and professional excellence as an Accredited Law Enforcement Agency.
I am very proud of the men and women of our Sheriff’s Office, and the accomplishments and achievements, we’ve received over the past few years. Our deputies take pride in their duties and serving the citizens of Madison County.
I was honored to be named by the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association and to be the recipient of the 2017 Sheriff of the Year Award for Kentucky.
I am a member of the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council board (KLEC).
I served as a commissioner with the Southern Madison County Water District (July 2008 —October 2013).

We have strived to build and to have a good working relationship with all our local law enforcement agencies, to work together, share information and assist each other, to provide an outstanding law enforcement service for all our citizens of Madison County to have a safer community.
The drug epidemic and crime problems we face in Madison County, I take very serious as your Sheriff. I have designated six deputies, “detectives,” assigned from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to fight the drug problem in Madison County daily.
Three deputies are assigned to the Madison County Drug Task Force, “HIDTA”, they work vigorously with other officers from the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Police, Berea Police and ATF to dismantle drug trafficking organizations. One is assigned to the Lexington based DEA Drug Taskforce office, and two deputies are assigned to a Street Level Crimes Unit that investigates local drug complaints. This continued effort has led to numerous arrests, seizures and the confiscations of personal property and currency from many drug traffickers.
One deputy sworn in as U.S. Marshalls at the Lexington U.S. Marshalls Office to assist each agency when needed in the apprehension of fugitives.
We have one Deputy on the U.S. Homeland Security Task Force.
We have a great working relationship with our Fiscal Court and have been good stewards of the taxpayer’s money. The Sheriff’s Office annual budgets, with the funding from the Fiscal Court, over the past few years has enable our Sheriff’s Office to grow in manpower, providing much needed equipment to allow our deputies to do their jobs more efficient and to be safe while doing them.
My record will show that under my administration I’ve provided the leadership needed to staff and run a proactive, efficient and professional office.
My character, experience, vision and dedication are my proven record.
Sheriff Mike Coyle
