Laura Morton is a trial attorney in Carroll County, Maryland. She has experience in family, criminal, traffic, and worker's compensation law and administrative hearings. She is dedicated to assisting all individuals to access the justice system and regularly provides free legal services to those who cannot afford an attorney.
She is a former law Clerk to the Hon. Luke K. Burns, Jr. of the Circuit Court for Carroll County, a former MSBA Leadership Academy Fellow, and a member of the Carroll County Bar Association.
Laura was one of three applicants submitted for consideration for Judge of the Circuit Court by the Carroll County Trial Courts Nominating Commission (the judicial nominating committee) after a comprehensive and thorough investigation and interview process that included many of the State Bar Associations and the Carroll County Bar Association.
Laura has been a Carroll County resident for over 23 years. She is a 1993 graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law. She was admitted to the California Bar in 1993 and to the Maryland Bar in 1995. Laura worked in private practice with a law firm in Baltimore and in Westminster. She previously worked for the Office of the Public Defender before opening her own law practice in Carroll County.
Laura believes in our system of justice and understands that access to it is an important component of the system working for all individuals. She has been a tireless advocate of rehabilitation and mental health treatment as a way to decrease crime rates. She regularly engages in community outreach to assist individuals in understanding the legal system, properly interacting with police for officer safety, and how to respectfully conduct themselves in court proceedings.
