Originally from Bailey, MS. Austin currently serves as a Senior Project Manager within the division of Research & Economic Development. In his role, Austin is responsible for getting MSU researchers’ world-class innovations out of the lab and into the marketplace, ensuring that research innovations and discoveries reach their full potential for public benefit. Austin works with internal stakeholders (faculty, staff, and students across all MSU departments, centers, and campuses) and external stakeholders (industry, state and federal agencies, DoD, etc.) to increase the impact of MSU research and stimulate economic development.
Prior to his academic career, Austin served in public safety as a firefighter and emergency medical technician, including top certifications in emergency management, terrorism identification/response, and hazardous materials. Through this work, he successfully obtained over $2,000,000.00 in grant funding for local emergency responders.
Mr. Check continues to provide community service through his volunteer fire department and as an advisory board member for East Mississippi Community College.
In his spare time Austin and his girlfriend Michaela, enjoy MSU sports, boating, and their animals Milo & Bella (canines), Maggie & Wally (horses), and Sweets (donkey).
