To The Citizens of Colleton County:
After much prayer and discussions with my family and friends I am proud to announce my candidacy for Colleton County At Large seat. I was born in Colleton County and raised by my mom, Elise Givens Trippe along with my two sisters Betty Anne and Claudette. I have lived in Colleton County my entire life and raised my family here.
I graduated from Bells High School and served 13 years in the National Guard. I started with Palmetto Rural Telephone Company as an installer and met hundreds of families in their homes in all parts of Colleton County. I spent 35 years with PRTC and served as Construction Supervisor until I retired. During my career, I dealt with families, businesses owners, and managed dozens of people. I learned the importance of listening to and communicating with people on all levels. I currently work for Brice Herndon Funeral Home as a funeral assistant. I am blessed to be able to serve my community by helping families in their time of need and grief.
I have been married to Sandra Smith Trippe for 48 years and we have two children: Shelby and her husband Nic Segura and Campbell Trippe. We have four Grandchildren: Camden Segura, Caylen Segura, Ava Trippe and Grayson Trippe. My family means everything to me. They are all residents of Colleton County, so I have a vested interest in improving our community for futire generations. My family and I attend Pine Grove Baptist Church where I serve as a deacon and trustee for my church.
I have enjoyed doing volunteer work for several organizations. I volunteered with the March of Dimes for years while working at PRTC and was name South Carolina Coastal Division volunteer of the year twice. One of my co-workers nominated me for the WCSC Channel 5 Hall of Fame and I was inducted as a result. After retiring, I served on the Colleton Count Rice Festival Board and became chairman. Over the years the committee has worked hard to improve the Rice Festival and it was recognized as being in the top 20 festivals in the southeast. I am still involved in planning the Rice Festival each year. I have been named Volunteer of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce and I was also chosen as Civitan's volunteer of the year. I had the honor in 2021 to serve as the Grand Marshall for Walterboro Christmas Parade.
I have wanted to run for County Council for many years, but I did not want to run against my friend and mentor Councilman Gene Wetsell. Since he is retiring this year, I am going to complete my dream and run for Colleton County Councilman At-Large seat. I plan on keeping out taxes low, create good paying jobs and keeping our schools at a high level so our children's education or some of the best in our state. Our current council has a record of achievement and I want to be a part of continuing that progress.
I promise the citizens of Colleton County that I will never forget that I work for you and your family. I will dedicate my efforts to deliver the goals you want to see completed. I will listen to you, and I will always remember you are the boss. I have lived here all of my life with my family, and I love Colleton County and the people who live here. It will be my honor to serve you as your County Councilman.
I am committed to this promise: “I WILL BE THE VOICE FOR ALL”.
