Currently as the Encinitas City Council District 4 representative, Mr. Ehlers is running for Mayor of Encinitas this November against incumbent Mayor, Tony Kranz.
As a 40-year resident in North County, Ehlers wants to return to the priorities that guided Encinitas since incorporation: restore local control, preserve community character, ensure public safety, protect the environment, fund essential public services first and carefully invest the public’s tax revenue in essential public projects.
Bruce was Chairman of the Encinitas Planning Commission, where he served seven years, collaborating with many past Mayors, City Council members, and Commissioners.
He wrote Proposition A, the Right to Vote Initiative, passed by Encinitas voters in 2013. Prop A guarantees the citizens’ right to vote on increases in zoning density and height. He was instrumental in successfully defending Prop A against a City Council-initiated lawsuit attempting to overturn that proposition.
Bruce is semi-retired from his professional role as a Senior Vice President of Product Development and Engineering for a consumer electronics firm. Bruce continues with his volunteer and citizen activist work which he has pursued for over 25 years.
He has been married to his wife, Beth, for forty years. They raised three daughters in Encinitas.
