Shelly Stoll Swanson is running for San Joaquin Delta Community College Trustee Area 1 in Stockton, California, an open seat. The election was held on November 5, 2024.
I am a mother of 3 graduates, a disability advocate and former accountant and have been around SJ Delta College for 23 years.
I am endorsed by the Assoc. Students of Delta College, SJDC Teachers Association, Police Management Association of SJ Delta College and the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges.
Some of my goals are:
-Make sure if the bond is passed it is used efficiently to help the students and repair classrooms.
-Increase outreach to the community informing them about programs available that will help them go to college to train for better careers, advance in the career they are in or go on to a 4 year college.
- Cut red tape for financial aid
-Have the board lobby the State for our college's needs including not tying funding to terminal degrees but to look at how the college helps people in our community earn a living wage.
- Have the board direct the President of SJDC to direct Human Resources not to take shortcuts in hiring and expand their outreach to create a large and diverse pool of applicants. Also, make wages more competitive. If you are going to recruit diverse faculty and staff, you need competitive wages.
As a former accountant I understand about fiscal solvency but the College should not lose site of it's mission which is serving the educational needs of the community.
