Jonathan Godes

Jonathan Godes is running for Garfield County Commissioner in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, an open seat. Election day is November 3, 2026.

About Me & Why I’m Running

I’m running for Garfield County Commissioner because I believe Garfield County needs experienced, pragmatic leadership focused on the future—not partisan politics. I served eight years on Glenwood Springs City Council, including two terms as mayor, and now lead the I-70 Coalition, where I work with communities across the mountain corridor on transportation and infrastructure. I’ve also served in leadership roles with RFTA, the Colorado Association of Ski Towns, and Northwest Colorado Council of Governments, and have helped lead several local nonprofits. I grew up on a farm in Iowa, worked my way through college, and moved to Colorado 25 years ago to build a life, raise a family, and serve my community.

Why I’m Running
Garfield County is at a turning point. Energy revenues are declining while housing costs, transportation challenges, and pressure on our water resources are growing. I want to help build a future where working families can afford to live here, young people can come home, and our communities remain strong.

My Priorities
Workforce Housing — Increase housing that people who work here can actually afford, so our teachers, nurses, tradespeople, and families can stay in their communities.
Transportation & Transit — Protect reliable transit and improve regional transportation so people aren't forced into long, expensive commutes.
Water Security — Protect Western Slope water for our communities, agriculture, rivers and local economy.
Public Lands & Conservation — Protect the public lands, open space and natural resources that define Garfield County and support our economy.
Economic Diversification — Prepare for declining energy revenues by creating new economic opportunities and good-paying jobs.
Pragmatic Leadership — Bring people together across political and geographic divides to solve problems and get things done.
I’m running with a simple belief: Common sense, common ground. We can protect what makes Garfield County special while building a stronger future—together.
