Al Almeida is a longtime Danbury resident who has lived and worked in our community for over 45 years upon arriving in Danbury at the age of eleven from Portugal.

For the past 23 years, he has been employed by the State of Connecticut as an Investigator in the Office of the Public Defender in the Danbury
Judicial District.

Al earned a Master’s Degree in Homeland Security Leadership from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor’s Degree in Justice & Law Administration from Western Connecticut State University. A graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School, Al is an inductee in the School’s Hall of Fame and was elected President of the School’s Hall of Fame Committee.

For the past 38 years, Al Almeida has served our city, state and nation in the US Army and US Army Reserves. Currently, he holds the rank of Command Sergeant Major (CSM) in the US Army Reserves. During his military career, he has been deployed twice to Iraq in support of the Global War on Terror.

Al Almeida now serves as the CSM of the 99th Regional Support Command who expertly directs 2,300 civilians and 570 service men and women providing management and support to Army Reserve soldiers in the thirteen-state Northeast Region. He is the steward managing its $210M budget.
