Jim Davison, 61, of New Tampa filled papers on June 30 to become a candidate to fill the Tampa City Council District 7 seat ...in the upcoming November general election. Davison has been a resident of New Tampa for 23 years with his wife, Diane, and their four children. He has seen the changes in North Tampa first hand.

“I’m running because the neighborhoods of North Tampa need an advocate who understands the various issues and needs of its citizens,” Jim Davison, said.

Davison was a Tampa City Council appointee to the transportation “Committee of 99,” and was also the co-founder and first chairman of the New Tampa Transportation Task Force. He has also served as a member of the North Transportation Alliance. Over the last two decades, he has helped bring attention to the many transportation problems in North Tampa, while accelerating many of the improvements, too.

Davison’s most recent efforts have been helping postpone the County Transportation Sales Tax. He assisted the County Commissioners looking into securing almost a billion dollars in new transportation funds, over the next 10 years, by using portions of future revenue growth in the budget.

Davison has been an ER physician for the last 23 years in the area. He has been appointed to multiple Hillsborough county boards and committees including the Citizen’s Advisory Committee, Indigent Health Care Advisory Board and Health Care Task Force, and the Emergency Medical Planning Council.

“I look forward to walking the neighborhoods of North Tampa and listening to the thoughts and concerns of the residents. Together, we can continue and improve the wonderful quality of life we have here in North Tampa, District 7,” Davison said.
