Rachel Stone
Challenger Rachel Stone is running for Gwinnett County Board of Education, District 1 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The election was held on May 21, 2024.
Born to second-generation immigrants and educators, I am also a product of public education. With over 10 years of professional experience in education, including classroom teaching, I bring a deep and fresh understanding of the challenges facing students, teachers, and leaders in our community. Witnessing firsthand the impact of inadequate support systems for our students, in 2016, I pursued and earned a law degree With Honors at Emory University, specialized in child, family, and education law. I later completed education leadership training at the University of Georgia, College of Education.
My advocacy spans from championing foster children's rights (during Governor Nathan Deal’s administration) to addressing legislative gaps in public education funding (during Governor Brian Kemp’s administration). Notably, during the 2018 Georgia General Assembly, I successfully lobbied for an additional $80 million allocation to underfunded public schools. Subsequently, my work at the Georgia Department of Education shed light on the critical need for informed policymaking from leaders with direct classroom teaching experience.
Having recently transitioned from serving as a GCPS (Gwinnett County Public Schools), Dacula Cluster English and Career and Technical Education teacher, I am excited to say, "Yes" again to GCPS by contributing to GCPS in a new capacity. Together, we can pave a brighter future for our community, one stone at a time!
