Laurie Peskin Marchini

Incumbent Laurie Peskin Marchini is running for City Council in Cumberland, Maryland. The election was held on November 5, 2024.

Laurie Peskin Marchini was born and raised in Cumberland. She received a B.A. from Western Maryland College and an M.A. from the University of Baltimore. Laurie also earned Certification from the Center for Mind, Body Medicine in Washington, D.C.

Laurie has served on Cumberland’s City Council since she was appointed in January 2019, and then elected in 2020. She represents the City on the Historic Preservation Commission, Downtown Development Commission, and several subcommittees for the redesign of Baltimore Street. She also serves as a facilitator for Leadership Allegany Rising Government Day and a judge for the Chamber of Commerce’s Civics Bee. She serves on Comptroller Brooke Lierman’s transition team and work team.

Prior to City work, she served on the Allegany County Board of Education for eight years, including three years as VP and two as President. She also served on the Y Board for 13 years including a stint as the board chair and co-chair for the Dragon Boat Races. She has worked with the WEX group at ACM and is part of the leadership team at ACM who brought the Center for Mind Body Medicine to the community to train 150 community members using the Center’s model.

Laurie is married and is the proud mom of two amazing sons and two sweet dogs.
