Meet Meghann...
As someone who has lived in Woodstock for twenty years, where I have raised two children, Mira and Max (along with a dog, Machi, and a cat, Romeo), and built a marriage with my husband, Mike, which continues to serve as the foundation that makes everything else possible, I have deep roots and faith in this town. I currently serve as Woodstock's 1st Deputy Town Clerk, where I've been entrusted with carrying out the full duties and responsibilities of the Town Clerk. I'm running for Town Clerk because I care deeply about this community, its people, its history, and its future. Every day, I show up ready to help residents, support my colleagues, and follow through on the responsibilities placed in my hands.
But I bring more than a love for this community to the role. I have over twenty-five years of experience in administration, human resources, business management, bookkeeping and organization, working in the fields of public health, retail, the restaurant industry, and the arts. I'm also the founder of The Empowered Approach, where I continue that work as an organizer, bookkeeper, safety officer, and manager, implementing structure, providing support, and empowering clients with an approach that is clear, customized, and built for positive outcomes. That same mindset is what I’ve applied to my work at the Clerk’s office.
The Town Clerk's office is often described as the heartbeat of local government, and I've seen first-hand why that's true. This office supports people during some of the most important moments in their lives, issuing marriage licenses, maintaining vital records, and providing birth and death certificates. We also handle dog, hunting and fishing licenses, and help ensure our local elections run smoothly. Beyond that, the office manages permits, notarizes documents, processes FOIL requests, oversees public records, handles tax and water/sewer payments, coordinates community space rentals, and operates the summer recreation program.
At its core, this work is about service. My goal has always been, and will continue to be, to make the Clerk's office accessible, approachable, transparent, and dependable. Whether someone comes in with a simple question or a complicated issue, I believe in listening carefully, helping fully, and treating every person with kindness and respect. I see challenges as opportunities to improve systems, strengthen communication, and build trust.
During my time in this role, I've worked to make the office not just responsive, but proactive, thinking ahead about what our community needs and how we can meet those needs more effectively. One example I'm especially excited about is organizing a combined dog licensing and rabies clinic. By bringing these services together, we can make things easier for residents, support public health, and promote responsible pet ownership.
Another priority of mine is strengthening records management across departments. Woodstock has a rich history, and our records reflect not only our legal framework but our cultural and social story as well. I've begun organizing and inventorying records town-wide to lay the foundation for a long-term system that preserves, protects, and provides access to these important documents. This work is essential to transparency, accountability, and honoring our past while preparing for our future.
I believe strongly in collaboration and value the relationships I've built with town staff, elected officials, department heads, and volunteers. I listen, ask questions, and welcome different perspectives because the best outcomes come from working together with respect and shared purpose. I’m also strongly committed to healing the divisiveness and distrust our town has experienced in recent years. I want my contribution to this town to be one of kindness. At the end of the day, we all want to live in a place we're proud to call home, a place where we can agree to disagree, treat each other with dignity, and come together to build the kind of community it deserves to be. To me, that's what it means to be a Woodstocker, and I believe we can be a shining example of that for others.
I'm proud of the work I've done thus far, and am well prepared to continue serving Woodstock with integrity and vision. And, so, I respectfully ask for your support in the primary on June 23rd and in the general election on November 3rd, so I can continue this work as your Town Clerk.
