Michael David Nash
Challenger Michael David Nash is running for Cleveland County Commissioner District 3 in Norman, Oklahoma. The election was held on June 16, 2026.
Michael joined the United States Marine Corps delayed-entry program less than a year after 9/11 and finished a semester early from Norman High so that he could go to boot camp and join the Marine Corps infantry as an 0311. He spent four years active duty in the USMC, where in 2004 he served as part of the Maritime Special Purpose Forces and Marine Raiders in the Pacific, and in 2005 he served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Six months before separating from the Marine Corps, on August 9th, 2006 Michael married his better half, Shandell Hartman. They came back to Norman and Michael attended college at Oklahoma City Community College where he received degrees in Engineering and Mathematics, and the University of Oklahoma where he received his Bachelor of Science degree and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. Along with the MGI-Bill, Michael received scholarship from the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.
In 2020, Dr. Nash was appointed to fill a vacancy on Norman City Council, where he represented Ward 5 until July, 2021. In 2023 he won election to return to the Ward 5 Council seat followed by a re-election in 2025. He dedicated his tenure to improving transparency with city government, preserving the rural area and protecting the sensitive ecology that surrounds the city’s water supply, Lake Thunderbird.
Michael and his better half, Shandell, will celebrate their 20 year anniversary this August. Michael and Shandell have three children ages 5, 9 and 14.
