Dr. Pam Kohlmeier ("Dr. Pam") is running for Washington State Representative to represent our Spokane community in Olympia. She is a physician and attorney who is a dedicated educator, and behavioral health advocate. Her career is dedicated to improving the health of our community by leading with compassion and integrity. Dr. Pam has decades of experience spanning emergency medicine practice, nonprofit behavioral health leadership, K-12 and graduate education, healthcare regulation, and broad community service. Dr. Pam is committed to improving the health of our community by ensuring access to affordable healthcare, housing, education, basic necessities, childcare, and a safe environment.
There are currently zero physicians serving in the Washington State Legislature, and together we can help change that. With massive cuts to Medicaid and Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, a quarter of a million Washington residents will lose health insurance which will have a domino effect on the financial stability of our healthcare system and community. Uninsured patients will not stop getting sick but will often become unable to pay for their care. Many hospitals are operating with large deficits. This hurts our local and state economy as healthcare systems are often the largest employers, and many hospital services and jobs are being cut as cost-saving measures, making access to these services far more challenging.
