Sonja Shephard is running for City Council in Pittsburg, California, an open seat. Election day is November 3, 2026.

I am an Afro-American/Native American candidate. My greatgrandfather was a Court Interpreter for Native Americans for Federal Judge Robert L. William's Courtroom. I am proud of my rich and diverse heritage. My experience in serving the community is just as diverse. I am an Environmentalist Activist with 350 Contra Costa Action, 350 Bay Area Action and the Sierra Club as well as a retired legal professional. I serve on five appointed positions in Pittsburg and Contra Costa. (Chair of Pittsburg Community Advisory Commission, Contra Costa Racial Justice Oversight Board (Criminal Diversion), Contra Costa Council on Aging, BART Police Civillian Review Board and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission/Association of Bay Area Governments.

Our community stands at a turning point. The decisions we make today will shape Pittsburg for years to come -- and we deserve leadership that takes that seriously. I'm running for City Council because I believe in what Pittsburg can become. With a commitment to every corner of this community, the best days for Pittsburg, are still ahead.
