Alex San Martin is a dedicated educator, public policy strategist, and community advocate running to represent District 6 on the Austin ISD Board of Trustees. Alex’s career is defined by a deep-seated belief that every child deserves a world-class public education and every teacher deserves a supportive, well-funded environment.

The Heart of an Educator: With direct classroom experience teaching in both Austin ISD and Houston ISD, Alex knows what it looks like when policy hits the whiteboard. He understands the burden of standardized testing, the critical need for competitive teacher retention, and the day-to-day realities of urban public-school campuses. The Insight of a Policymaker: True advocacy requires an understanding of how state law controls local classrooms. Alex’s extensive legislative experience at the Texas State Capitol gave him firsthand insight into how education funding formulas are created, how state accountability systems are engineered, and how to fight effectively for public education funding.
The Discipline of a Public Servant: Effective board governance requires collaboration, transparency, and a firm grasp of public sector administrative law. Through his prior service on state and city boards, Alex has managed public budgets, worked collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and championed community voices.
