Incumbent Andrew K. Whitman is running for Ojai City Council District 3 in Ojai, California. Election day is November 3, 2026.
As a 57-year Ojai Valley Resident, I know all too well that Ojai is an amazing place to live! Residents choose Ojai because of its unmatched natural beauty, peacefulness, and Ojai’s charming character and small town way of life. One of Ojai’s challenges is balancing the uniqueness of what we have with the seemingly unlimited appetite of out-of-towners wanting to experience Ojai.
As your representative on City Council for the past 4 years, I have advocated for common sense decisions that are in the best interests of Ojai residents and I will continue to champion fiscally responsible approaches to our most pressing local issues: retaining Ojai’s small town character and quality of life for residents, public safety, wildfire preparedness, water security, traffic safety and reducing congestion, climate mitigation, and creative housing solutions that help Ojai residents live and thrive here.
I ran for Ojai City Council in District 3 because I wanted to keep Ojai livable -- a small town where our kids and grandkids could afford to live with adequate, clean water and in a healthy, safe environment. As a community, and as your City Council representative, these past four years have been enlightening and challenging -- with both well-deserved successes and more than a few hard-fought issues.
As a former Ojai City Planning Commissioner, a trained mediator, a vocal participant in Valley land use issues, and an attorney successfully fighting the City of Ventura to protect the water rights of Ojai Valley residents, I believed I was well-prepared for the responsibilities of City government. And while I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish in four years, many challenges still lie ahead. Which is why I decided to stick around and continue to serve for another four years as District 3's Councilmember.
As many of you may know, I have called Ojai home for more than 50 years. I also share many of our community's concerns that Ojai is changing too fast. Excessive traffic, crowded weekends, exploding demand for housing, as well as a growing need for affordable housing for seniors, people with disabilities, and people with limited resources. We still struggle with a rapidly changing climate that has contributed to wildfires, flooding and places a great deal of stress on our wilderness area, rivers and other natural resources.
I thank you in advance for sharing your opinions and ideas on the myriad issues before the City Council and greatly appreciate your support and involvement. And I respectfully ask for your vote on November 3rd.
